On display in this section is a range of projects which I have worked on for private clients, many of which are bilingual Gàidhlig/English designs:
These are 2 pages of a booklet I created for the bespoke tweed makers. These booklets were to be sent to exclusive clothing stores in areas like New York and on Saville Row, for display purposes. The booklet showcases the unique range of tweeds produced by this upmarket company.
CNAG AVIEMORE FLYERS
I was asked by Comunn na Gàidhlig (CnaG) in Inverness to design a series of bilingual flyers for use during the skiing season. The flyers were specific to 5 ski resorts around the Cairngorms, with an information map and resort info on the front of the flyer, and general information and guidelines on the back.
I created a full corporate identity package for Donald MacRury Electrical, which used the rubix cube logo to represent the ‘complete solution’ on offer.
I was asked to create the invites and event programmes for the Harris Tweed Orb Centenary celebration that took place at the beginning of 2011:
NA MO CHUID AODAICH
I was commissioned to design a set of booklets and posters to advertise a series of community events which were aimed at raising funds for Crossroads carers. These events were in the form of a fashion show, which also incorporated music and drama, and by all accounts were a massive success. Below is one of the posters and the inside of a booklet which was used during the Summer of 2009.
This Gàidhlig book, entitled ‘Sheol Mi ‘n Uiridh‘, was the result of several years of loving research by celebrated Gàidhlig singer Mary Smith. The book comprises of over 140 pages of poems and songs relating to ships from the 2oth Century, on which men from the Highlands of Scotland worked. Included with each entry are photographs and information on the author and the boat itself, all done in the style of a sailor’s scrapbook.
Included here is the front cover of the book, along with one of the poems. The book went on sale in paperback form in October 2009.
SEINN THU FHEIN DVD
I was asked by the Gaelic Arts Agency and Murray International Language Centre to produce a DVD package, with accompanying advertising materials, for Seinn Thu Fhein – a Gàidhlig karaoke DVD. The DVD consists of well-known Gàidhlig songs, and the accompanying booklet insert was there to display the lyrics of these famous songs before they were attempted.
Poster for the American and Canadian market
Below are a CD cover and Business Card that were designed for the launch of solo artist Sinead Cunningham’s demo CD.
I was approached by Western Isles Council to design posters to advertise their health and fitness intiative ‘Slainte Mhath’ (translated as good health), which was being promoted to tie in with the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. I also designed the discount cards, and the artwork for the card machine that was used in the Stornoway Sports Centre.
ST KILDA PROJECT
The St Kilda Opera was a major international production, which was performed simultaneously on the 22nd and 23rd June 2007 in five countries – Scotland, France, Belgium, Germany and Austria. Since then, the project has been nominated for and won several awards. Also, as part of Homecoming Scotland 2009, there is a St Kilda Day: Latha Hiort celebration on August 29th.
I have been working closely with Proiseact nan Ealan (The Gaelic Arts Agency) for several years, and as the creators of this project they commissioned me to produce several items for them to promote the Opera and the ongoing projects which surround it, including booklets, leaflets and posters. Below are a few examples.

The following items were recently designed for the upcoming St Kilda Centre:
Stòrlann Nàiseanta na Gàidhlig is a company which was established by the Scottish Executive to produce materials for Gàidhlig education throughout Scotland. I have assisted them with this aim several times by designing items such posters and books for use in schools nationwide. Below are a few examples of this work.
SUNRISE NOT SECULAR
Sunrise not Secular are a Celtic Rock band from the Isle of Lewis, who requested design work to promote their debut album and Scottish tour. I began by designing them a series of logos to use, before moving onto the album and tour posters.
I have undertaken a couple of large promotional/advertising projects for the Theatre Hebrides company. One of these was for the 1st Lewis Film Festival, which was a community led initiative to show a variety of films in rural facilities. The other project was a theatre tour for the play ‘Roghainn nan Daoine‘ (The People’s Choice), which toured right throughout Scotland during 2010.

Paper/Magazine Layout and Design
This website – http://www.leabharmor.net/index.php/audio/index01/ – has examples of animations which were created to coincide with the publication of The Great Book of Gaelic (An Leabhar Mor), a book which consists of 50 Scottish Gaelic and 50 Irish Gaelic poems, and accompanying artwork.
The book was showcased right around the world as a travelling exhibition which included the original artworks, and the animations were an interesting project to work on.
